What's in Pack Run
Pack Run is a dog shampoo bar made with Grass-Fed Tallow and ingredients from certified organic suppliers: extra virgin coconut oil, castor oil, coconut milk, and turmeric powder, plus neem oil and white kaolin clay. It is scented with Atlas cedarwood and patchouli essential oils held to 0.5% and cured a minimum of eight weeks.
For the trail dog. The one who runs ahead and doubles back, who goes into every creek and under every log. Organic turmeric turns the bar the orange of fall leaves on the trail.
The scent
Pack Run smells like the woods you just walked out of. Atlas cedarwood is the heartwood, warm and dry. Patchouli is the dark, damp ground beneath it.
Every essential oil we use is steam-distilled, sourced to country of origin, and documented by batch number and full safety data. We select certified organic essential oil wherever it is available. No synthetic fragrance. Ever.
About the neem
Neem oil comes from the seed of the neem tree and is a traditional botanical for skin and coat. It has a strong, earthy scent all its own. Pack Run keeps it to no more than 3% of the oils and lets cedarwood and patchouli carry it. An earthy note belongs in a bar named for the woods.
Contains neem oil. Do not use on pregnant or nursing dogs. If you are pregnant, wear gloves when bathing your dog, or choose First Bath.
Why tallow for a dog's coat
Grass-fed tallow is close kin to the natural oils of a healthy coat. With castor oil and coconut milk it builds a dense, creamy lather that rinses clean and leaves the coat soft, not stripped and straw-dry. Read more in The Ingredient Story.
Why coconut milk
Organic coconut milk for a dense, creamy lather that works down through the coat and rinses clean.
How to bathe your dog with a shampoo bar
Wet the coat down to the skin. Rub the bar along the back, sides, and legs, then work the lather in with your fingers, keeping it away from the eyes and ears. Rinse with clean water until no lather remains.
Caring for the bar between baths
A tallow bar kept dry lasts bath after bath. Left in a puddle, it goes soft and washes away before its time.
- Rinse it clean. After the bath, rinse the bar and pick off any dog hair before you set it down.
- Give it a berth that drains. Rest it on a slatted dish or our bamboo soap tray so air reaches every side.
- Keep it out of the spray. Store it clear of the tub floor and the path of the hose or shower.
- Let it dry hard. A bar that dries fully between baths firms back up and lasts longer.
- Stowing it for a trip? Let it dry completely first, then wrap it in paper or cloth rather than sealing it in a bag, so it can breathe.
A note on essential oils and dogs
No essential oil is entirely without risk for dogs. Every scented Dog S'Poo bar holds essential oils to 0.5%, in a bar that rinses off completely, and we leave out tea tree, citrus, mint, and the other oils most commonly flagged for dogs.
Even so, do not use our scented bars on puppies under 10 weeks old, pregnant or nursing dogs, or dogs prone to seizures. For those dogs, choose First Bath, our unscented bar. After lathering, rinse your dog thoroughly with clean water until no lather remains. If your dog has a health condition, check with your veterinarian first.
The first pour
Pack Run was poured in October and is curing now. Every Dog S'Poo bar cures a minimum of eight weeks before it leaves us, the same standard as every bar we make. The first pour is small: eight Full Measure Bars and five Sea Dog Bars. It releases December 8, and Plank Members get first access. Use Notify me on this page and we will write the moment it is ready.
