Description
The third generation of this family first rounded Diamond Head at nineteen.
The water off the Koolau Mountains on the leeward side of Oahu is a color that exists nowhere else on earth — deep, vivid, shifting between purple and indigo and something in between that has no name in English but that every sailor who's seen it carries somewhere permanent. The air coming off those islands carries citrus and flower and salt and something warm and completely alive underneath it all. Trade winds that have crossed the entire Pacific, arriving soft and warm and smelling of everything they passed through on the way.
Alani Moani means a fragrant breeze of orange blossoms in Hawaiian.
This bar is named for that air. And it earns the name with every single ingredient in it.
Alani Moani lives in our citrus collection alongside Lemon Drop and Orange Crush. Where Lemon Drop is crisp and bright and Orange Crush is warm and sun-drenched, Alani Moani is the moment you round the headland and the trade winds find you. Warm. Bright. Smelling of somewhere extraordinary. Completely alive.
What's in it
Alkanet root is where the bar announces itself before you've read a single word — one of nature's most extraordinary natural colorants, a plant root used in skincare and natural dyeing for thousands of years. Steeped directly into the oils of this bar, it produces the deep, dramatic purple that makes Alani Moani the most visually striking bar in our collection. No dye. The color is earned by the root itself.
Pink rose clay works alongside the alkanet in quiet partnership — the lightest touch of any clay in natural skincare, gentle enough for daily use on skin that reacts to everything else.
Raw organic Manuka honey — sourced from New Zealand bees that pollinate only the native Manuka bush — brings a natural richness to every wash. We use only Manuka across our entire collection, because the difference between Manuka and ordinary honey isn't subtle, and we didn't build this company to use the second-best option because it costs less.
Organic aloe vera juice is the cooling heart of this bar — a soft, soothing addition that works in partnership with everything around it. Organic coconut milk turns the lather silky and rich.
Tangerine essential oil is the citrus soul of Alani Moani — bright, sweet, and immediately transporting in a way synthetic citrus fragrance has never replicated. Sweet orange, five times concentrated, stands behind it so the citrus lasts. Cold-pressed from the rinds of sun-grown fruit, they carry the full aromatic complexity of the real thing. This is the citrus that makes you close your eyes on the first inhale and go somewhere warm.
Clary sage essential oil is the unexpected depth — herbal, warm, and slightly earthy, the note that grounds the citrus brightness and gives the whole blend staying power. It's the note that makes perfumers lean in and try to identify what they're smelling.
Ylang ylang essential oil closes the composition — tropical, rich, and unmistakably of somewhere extraordinary. It bridges the citrus brightness and the herbal depth with a floral warmth that makes the whole blend cohere. This is the note that stays on your skin. The one that makes someone lean toward you and ask what you're wearing.

The waters that named this bar
This family has sailed Hawaiian waters across three generations. The third rounded Diamond Head at nineteen and carried the color of those waters home permanently — in memory, in instinct, and eventually in this bar. The deep purple of Alani Moani is the color of the ocean off the Koolau Mountains at dusk. The scent is the trade wind arriving after crossing the Pacific.
Blind Pirate Trading Co. makes small-batch nautical skincare bars, founded by a woman whose father handed her the wheel and she never gave it back — and her son Dolton, completely blind since the NICU, raised for nine years aboard a sailboat named Syrena in Charleston Harbor, and the hands that Braille every Captain's Bar this company produces. Dolton Brailles every Captain's Bar label by hand. Because if you can't read it independently, it isn't finished.
The website is screen-reader accessible. Tick the Braille box in your cart and every product in your order will be Braille labeled. We built this company from the inside of real need, and we have never made a product we wouldn't trust on our most vulnerable family member.
He will see everything. He will just see it differently.
The wind is out there. Point yourself into it.
Small batch. Every Captain's Bar label Brailled by Dolton's hands.
The trade winds crossed the entire Pacific to get here. This bar crossed three generations.
Alani Moani. A fragrant breeze of orange blossoms. Yours.
